The emerging inner city communities of Cleveland are the focus of GlazenUrban, LLC. We invest private funds in neighborhood commercial real estate, and in entrepreneurs proven ready to ramp up in those areas to create jobs, attract residents and visitors, and generate sustainable profitability.
GlazenUrban was founded in 2007 and has invested over $2 million in our neighborhood projects in Tremont, Ohio City, Gordon Square, Collinwood, University Circle and Downtown.
In 2016, Alan Glazen was selected by LeBron James to be a “shark” on the CNBC series, CLEVELAND HUSTLES. Over $1 million was invested in new businesses in the GordonSquare/near west side area.
With the blessings of the producers, Alan founded the CLEVELAND CHAIN REACTION television project which continues those good works. Our partners include the Council of Small Enterprises (COSE), Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Cleveland Foundation and Fox 8 television.
Our goal is to earn reasonable profits while offering favorable terms, minimal red tape and continuous guidance, support and friendship. We measure our success by the success of our partners and the good-paying jobs we help create.
GlazenUrban is the third generation of the Glazen companies in Cleveland. Glazen Advertising was a leading marketing agency founded in 1972. Glazen Creative Studios produced broadcast documentaries for business and television globally since 1990.
Alan Glazen is a lifelong Clevelander, born in the city on Eddy Road, and still a city resident for the past 35 years. He was a co-founder of the Cleveland International Film Festival, is a member of the American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame here, on the USA Advisory Board of Spain’s IESE University, and an active troubadour representing the city he loves.
Alan lives in downtown Cleveland and is proud to be part of Cleveland’s renaissance.
ABC THE TAVERN is one of Cleveland’s oldest neighborhood gathering places and has increased sales 1000% since our investment. This was our original investment, which lead to the formation of A-Z Taverns, Inc., which now employs over 100 people in the city.
XYZ THE TAVERN was one of the early investors in the now burgeoning neighborhoods, and is considered a true gathering place for neighbors and visitors. Its sales lead the A-Z Tavern group, and was recently expanded to include a private neighborhood meeting and party floor.
CLEVELAND BAGEL COMPANY was the company we invested in on the CLEVELAND HUSTLES network television series. We took over an old building in an area that links Detroit-Shoreway to Ohio City, and in less than one year, it has tripled its sales projections. They proudly provide good living wages starting at $15⁄hour, and are presently seeking a second location on the east side of downtown.
TREMONT GENERAL STORE marked the return of the old-fashioned neighborhood general retailer. They feature almost every locally made artisan food product, plus a small organic farm, pet foods, and much more.
ABC THE TAVERN UPTOWN was built from the ground up to be the east side version of our popular tavern of the same name in Ohio City. It has become the gathering place for students, teachers, health care professionals and visitors to the heart of Cleveland’s cultural scene.
THE ONTARIO is one of the last remaining hideaway lounges in the city, and has been known for “welcoming all” for almost 40 years.
ERIE ISLAND COFFEE was founded by us on Kelleys Island, Ohio, and has become one of the consistently most-favored shops of its kind in the area. The shop on popular East 4th Street is a neighborhood landmark, and its sister shop in Rocky River is that area’s most successful independent coffee shop.
CITIZEN PIE, an authentic Neapolitan, wood fired pizza shop in the heart of famous Waterloo Arts area, across the street from Beachland Ballroom. We guided this project to fruition.
MILLARD FILLMORE PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY, a tongue−in−cheek tavern that has become the prominent gathering place in Waterloo. We purchased and improved the building, then sold it to a Tremont developer who completed the job and guided the owner/operators to fruition.
In 2016, LeBron James and CNBC partnered to create a regional version of that network’s SHARK TANK. They selected Alan Glazen to be one of the four investors along with Jonathon Sawyer, Kathy Futey and Kumar Arora. The program aired nationally for six weeks, and resulted in 4 new businesses on Cleveland’s near west side. Eight other businesses followed. Through this project, GlazenUrban backed The Cleveland Bagel Company.
In 2017, GlazenUrban partnered with the Council of Small Enterprises (COSE), Cleveland Neighborhood Progress and Fox 8 TV to create CLEVELAND CHAIN REACTION, which is following in the footsteps of CLEVELAND HUSTLES. It begins airing in July, 2017 and offers up to a million dollars to another emerging Cleveland neighborhood.
